Also, why <a href=\"http:\/\/content.techrepublic.com.com\/2346-13625_11-456848.html?tag=nl.e101\"><em>TechRepublic&#8217;s<\/em> &#8220;teardown&#8221; feature<\/a> is so popular.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.encoretechresources.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/robotics-redefined-booth-kids1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-850\" title=\"robotics-redefined-booth-kids\" src=\"http:\/\/www.encoretechresources.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/robotics-redefined-booth-kids1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.encoretechresources.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/robotics-redefined-booth-kids1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.encoretechresources.com\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/robotics-redefined-booth-kids1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>We seem to have an innate fascination for seeing how things fit together, or go together. &#8220;Sidewalk superintendents&#8221; at construction projects are another example of this proclivity.<\/p>\n<p>Not that we&#8217;re suggesting that taking things apart that really shouldn&#8217;t be taken apart is a good idea (unless you&#8217;re adept at putting them back together), but it can be a source of inspiration. And, if the target object \u2013 like those at <em>Make&#8217;s<\/em> Robotics Redefined both at <a href=\"http:\/\/makerfaire.com\/detroit\/2010\/\">Detroit&#8217;s recent Maker Faire<\/a> is dispensable anyway, you have a way to keep kids occupied for hours, while revving up their ingenuity circuits.<\/p>\n<p>They took an old turntable, for instance, and turned it into \u00a0a geared, rotating candle holder. &#8220;What would you do with that?&#8221; you ask. That&#8217;s not the point. But the answer might well be, &#8220;Maybe something.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s been a fair amount of attention lately to \u00a0America&#8217;s innovation standing (is it threatened?), including in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/innovate\/di_special\/20070503mostinnovat.htm\"><em>Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em><\/a>. Find enough mechanisms for kids to take apart and recombine into something new, however, and we&#8217;re likely to be reassured.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, <em>Make <\/em>magazine seems worth following.
